Alternative Format
Satisfying requests from staff, students, applicants and visitors for information provided into 'Alternative Format' is a legal duty.
The University is proud to have onsite provision for creating information in a range of accessible methods. The Alternative Format Suite (AFS) provides:
- a service to transfer documents into alternative formats, such as:
- Audio
- Braille
- Large Print
When providing text to the service, photocopies must be clear to read and provided at an agreed time in advance.
July 2020 note re Microsoft Teams accessibility:
- The Microsoft Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology service is built-into MS Teams, providing an option for text captions. To use live captions in a meeting, go to your meeting controls and select More options ... > Turn on live captions.

In 2012 the University's AFS within IT Services and Student Services, successfully participated in a programme to demonstrate good practice provision and process, with the E&D Officer providing input on legislative compliance.
