General Council appointments

The General Council holds responsibility for the appointment of a number of key figures within the University.

The Chancellor

The Chancellor of the University is elected by the members of the General Council. The Chancellor usually holds this office for life. Find out about the current University Chancellor.

General Council Assessors to the University Court

Every two years the General Council nominates one of its members to serve as an assessor to the University Court for a four-year term. Find out about the current assessors on the University Court membership page.

Business Committee members

Business Committee elections are held every two years and are due to take place in 2021. Find out more about the Business Committee and its current membership.

Business Committee Elections 2021

An election to fill six vacancies, as a result of four elected members reaching the end of their term and two current vacancies, will take place in May/June 2021.

The closing date for nominations is 12 noon on Monday 26 April 2021.

Candidates must be members of the General Council and must be proposed and seconded by a member of the General Council.

Nominations should be submitted using the online form below and include a personal statement (not exceeding 250 words in total). This should include an indication of the skills and experience you feel to be relevant to your candidature. These details will be made available to General Council members online in the event of an election. Please provide the contact details of your proposer and seconder on the nomination form. They will be contacted separately by the University to confirm their nomination.

Provided there are more candidates than vacancies, elections will be by online voting, using the single transferable vote system, between Monday 10 May and Monday 7 June 2021. Members will receive an email with voting instructions when voting opens on 10 May 2021.

The results will be posted on the General Council website by the end of the week following the close of the poll.
