Big European grant to study the Sun
The School, through lead researcher Dr Vasilis Archontis, has been awarded a major share of a €11.2 million European Research Council Synergy Grant for 'The Whole Sun Project’, a research collaboration to study our brightest star, the Sun. The collaboration, with Paris-Saclay CEA (France), University of Oslo (Norway) and the Max Planck Institute MPS (Germany) will study the inner most workings of the Sun, from its variability, magnetic cycle and eruptive nature to how it impacts the Sun-Earth connection.
