Gregory Professor installed as President of the London Mathematical Society

Mark Chaplain, Gregory Professor of Applied Mathematics, was formally installed as President of the London Mathematical Society at their Annual General Meeting in London on 21st November. (The London Mathematical Society is the  UK national mathematical society.) At the meeting he was decorated with the Presidential Chain of Office and his name has been inscribed on the board at De Morgan House, the LMS headquarters, at the end of a list of very distinguished mathematicianswhich includes Augustus De Morgan, Arthur Cayley, G.H. Hardy, Mary Cartwright and Michael Atiyah. He will serve as LMS President for two years. Mark researches in mathematical biology, and in particular the mathematics of cancer growth and treatment. He was Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics from 2017-22.
