Information for new students
There is a range of IT support available for students at the University.
Once you've activated your account, you have 14 days to sign up for multi-factor authentication.

Get online
Connect to eduroam wifi
Eduroam is a secure wireless network available for staff and students to use in most University buildings.
Laptops
If you've got an internet connection already, visit cat.eduroam.org to download the eduroam certificate.
If you're working offline, use the offline method using our uos-connect network.
Gaming consoles, TVs and other tech
If you're staying in Halls of Residences, connect your recreational devices to resnet.
Mobile devices
Download the geteduroam app to set up eduroam on your mobile device.
Follow the instructions to set up eduroam wifi then sign in using University your email address and password to connect.
Use Outlook to read your emails, view your calendar and manage your contacts.
Free Microsoft Office
Students and staff can download free copies of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, alongside other Microsoft 365 applications, like Forms and Teams.
Get software through Apps Anywhere
Apps Anywhere allows students to access software applications on-demand through a web portal on any University PC.
Free antivirus
Search 'antivirus' in Apps Anywhere to download WithSecure for Windows and Mac.
Printing
Send documents to any printer and retrieve your print job using your ID card.
To print, you can:
- install the printers on your laptop
- upload a PDF to Web Print
When your print balance is running low, you can top it up online.
