Adrian Greer Strategic Adviser (Finance)

The role of Strategic Adviser (Finance) was created in January 2025 to provide advice on the further development of the University’s financial strategy. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing counsel and strategic financial advice to the Principal, COO, CFO and the wider senior management team
  • Supporting the COO and CFO to develop the next iteration of the financial strategy
  • Ensuring that the university achieves its full potential for revenue generation and effective cost management, in support of its academic and research objectives
  • Working with the COO and CFO to ensure an acceptable debt profile to allow the university to deliver its ambitious capital plan
  • Providing advice on new sources of finance

Adrian Greer was a member of the St Andrews University Court from 2017 to 2024, including as deputy Chair of Court. He worked for the British Council for 35 years, the last nine years of that period as COO. A qualified accountant, he started his professional career at the National Audit Office. He was awarded a CMG in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2004, for his work in Russia. He is an alumnus of the university, with an MA in English language and literature. Adrian is a Marshall Aid Commemoration Commissioner, chairs the Commission’s  audit and risk committee, works as an Executive Coach and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
