Honours Degree Committee

The Honours Degree Committee is a small group of elected and ex-officio members which is responsible for the initial consideration of honorary degree nominations and special lectures, in addition to identifying strategic matters for discussion at meetings of Academic Council.

Responsibilities

The Honours Degree Committee's responsibilities include:

  • Selecting names for the award of honorary degrees and the University Medal in accordance with regulations published as part of the standing orders of Senate.
  • Considering and approving proposals for special University lectures (including both established, endowed lectureships and suggestions for new lecture programmes).
  • Considering business for meetings of the Senate and the Academic Council and to advise the Senate or Academic Council on academic issues and concerns.
  • Establishing working groups and commission reports on matters of academic significance, and to facilitate discussion at Academic Council of academic strategy and initiatives.
  • Considering any matter referred to it by the Academic Council or Senate (particularly including confidential student cases).
