The information below is for undergraduate students who are participating in any of the following programmes:

  • Biology External Placement;
  • Chemistry External Placement;
  • Modern Languages 'With Integrated Year Abroad' Placement

Outbound documentation tool

The Outbound Documentation Tool will be used to manage all of your requirements for your placement, and is available within MySaint as "My Study Abroad Administration". Tailored to your placement type, the Tool allows you to see what tasks or documents are required at various stages of your placement, and allows you to upload and view documents. Documents to complete 

Pre-Departure Agreement

  • All students who are Working Abroad or in the UK must complete a Pre-Departure Agreement. You should read the Terms and Conditions for your programme before completing the Pre-Departure Agreement task in MySaint.
  • Final deadline: end of May 
  • Please note that your permission to go abroad is conditional upon your agreement of the External Placement Terms and Conditions.

In order to complete the pre-departure agreement task, you should indicate the following:

  • That you have agreed to the Terms and Conditions for your programme
  • If the Global Office has permission to speak to your next of kin in an emergency
  • If you have previously received Turing funding

Please note that completing a work placement agreement is not required as part of the pre-departure task.  Please see below for further information.

Work Placement Agreement: Chemistry Placements

Students in the School of Chemistry should complete the Chemistry Work Placement Agreement (Word, 527 KB) rather than the standard Work Placement Agreement.

What? Please complete and have signed by your supervisor/ mentor.  The Global Office can help to obtain a signature from your Placement Coordinator in St Andrews. 
Who? All students undertaking a Chemistry work placement either overseas or in the UK.
When? Final deadline: no later than 4 weeks after commencing placement. Fully signed agreements should uploaded to the documentation tool in MySaint or emailed to studyabroad@st-andrews.ac.uk  Please see the user guide above for further information. 

Work Placement Agreement: Biology and Modern Languages Placements (excluding British Council Language Assistants)

Prior to departure, you should complete a Work Placement Agreement (Word, 529 KB) Please refer to the Work Placements Policy when completing your Work Placement Agreement.

What? This is both your application to undertake a work placement and your training agreement.  Please complete in consultation with your Placement Co-ordinator. Once completed, it should be sent to your host organisation for signature and then returned to you so that it can be signed by your Placement Co-ordinator.  Your form should then be submitted to the Global Office for institutional signature.  This document also ensures we have the correct information on your student record.
Who? All students EXCEPT those intending to be British Council Language Assistants or Chemistry Placements. 
When? All work placement agreements should be submitted by the 31 May for placements outside the UK and by 30 June for UK placements.  Fully signed agreements will be uploaded to the documentation tool in MySaint by the Global Office for your reference. 

British Council Language Assistants

If you are undertaking a British Council Language Assistantship, please complete the Work Placement Agreement British Council Language Assistantship (Word, 522 KB)

What? Please complete and have signed by your Co-ordinator and your headteacher/ mentor.
Who? All students undertaking a non-Erasmus+ British Council Language Assistantships.
When? Final deadline: no later than 4 weeks after commencing placement abroad. Fully signed agreements should uploaded to the documentation tool in MySaint. Please see the user guide above for further information. 

Personal details

While you are away, you must ensure that your personal details are kept up-to-date.  This is important should we need to contact you in an emergency. You can update your details in MySaint.

On your return

We will also ask you to complete a short report form about your time abroad.  Your feedback helps us to us evaluate and improve our study abroad programmes - your feedback is valued.  

The Report Form Work Placement (Word, 44 KB) should be returned by 1 August to outbound@st-andrews.ac.uk.
