Connect to the VPN

The VPN (virtual private network) client allows current staff and postgraduates to connect to the University network when working remotely. Once connected, you can access resources that would otherwise be restricted for those outwith the University, for example, your home drive.

If you are not a member of staff or postgraduate student but require access to the VPN, contact the IT Service Desk.

To connect to the VPN, you will first need to download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN to your device. Information on how to download the VPN to Mac and Windows devices is available below. To download the VPN to all other devices, you should download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client from your local app store, then connect using the instructions listed below for all devices.

Students can access their home drive without connecting to the VPN.

1. Before you connect to the VPN, your device has the latest security patches and anti-virus is installed (F-Secure is available through Apps Anywhere).
2. Download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN software from Apps Anywhere.
3. Click the AnyConnect icon that has appeared on your desktop.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. At the Installation Type section, untick all the boxes apart from VPN.
6. Click Continue.
7. Click Install.
8. Enter your Mac username and password if prompted.
Cisco AnyConnect VPN should now be installed on your Mac in a folder called Cisco.

2. Download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN software from Apps Anywhere
3. Click Next.
4. Accept the terms in the License Agreement.
5. Click Install. This may take a few minutes.
Once the Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client is installed, you should be able to open it from the start menu.

2. Download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN software from Apps Anywhere.
3. Enter vpn.st-andrews.ac.uk into the window that opens.
4. Click Connect.
5. Enter your University username and password.
Once you're connected, you'll see the Cisco AnyConnect globe icon on your toolbar.
