Technology for staff

IT Services is responsible for managing the budget and technology available for staff working in professional service units.

New staff

When a new member of staff joins the University, Human Resources contact IT Services so a work station can be prepared before their arrival. If a new member of staff is joining your unit at short notice and will start within the next two weeks, contact IT Services directly.

Return your IT equipment when you leave

All University-purchased devices must be returned . This includes laptops, smartphones, desktop PCs and tablets.

If you work in a Unit, arrange with your line manager to return equipment on your last day.

If you work in a School, alert your School Computing Officer (or School Manager if they’re unavailable) as soon as possible.

Hybrid working equipment

Return any monitors, keyboards, headphones, mice, or docking stations supplied by the University. Include accessories such as power leads, cables, and laptop bags.

What happens to returned equipment

Returned equipment is donated to Reusing IT, a West Lothian charity that refurbishes and repairs devices to combat digital poverty. They supply low-income households and organisations working in education, health, and agriculture.
