Kim Cartwright
Disability Adviser
Kim joined Student Services as a Trainee Disability Adviser, and will be responsible for ensuring that students have access to the information, support and adjustments they require in order for them to achieve their potential in their academic studies.
Since graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 2016 with a First-Class Honours degree in Psychology, Kim has worked in administrative roles in three academic Schools at the University of St Andrews, and so brings with her extensive knowledge of the University and experience of supporting students at UG, PGT and PGR levels throughout their studies.
Whilst studying at Aberdeen, Kim volunteered at a school for pupils aged 3-18 with profound, multiple and complex needs, which sparked an interest in educational psychology and supporting young people in education. Before joining Student Services in June 2022, Kim was the Disability Coordinator for the Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Studies, and in serving in this role during the Covid-19 pandemic she witnessed first-hand the negative impact that the pandemic had on students’ mental health. She is now keen to develop her skills to enable her to support students with mental health difficulties.
Kim is passionate about ensuring that education is not only accessible to all, but enjoyable too. She was nominated for a Students’ Association Teaching Award in 2022 for Outstanding Commitment by a Member of Professional Service Staff.
In her spare time, you will find Kim in the gym, going for long walks, watching football or cuddling her two cats, Alfie and Smudge.
