Fiona Morton

Counsellor

Fiona is a part-time counsellor with Student Services and joined the team in 2014. Fiona graduated from Glasgow University with a degree in English and Philosophy and went on to work for the BBC setting up Helplines for radio and TV programmes. She then undertook Postgraduate Diploma training in Counselling at Strathclyde University and from there worked in healthcare settings, with students at the Glasgow School of Art, and setting up a Bereavement Services at Glasgow’s leading hospice.


Fiona is keen to help students identify and work through any issue that presents as a barrier to their wellbeing or potential. Grounded in the Person-Centred approach, she integrates psycho-education, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) depending on individual needs and presentations. Fiona believes in collaborative working, based on a deep sense of trust and respect, and will work to develop a therapeutic relationship that is supportive and enabling.


Fiona also works with young people in schools and is a qualified Children and Young People’s Counsellor. She is an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
