Ellen has recently joined Student Services as a Counsellor, but is now Assistant Director (Mental Health) to assist the Directorate Team.

Ellen is a BACP accredited counsellor who graduated with an MSc in Counselling from the University of Abertay 2013. She decided to further her education completing a MSc in Psychology shortly after. Discovering a deep interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy she undertook a PGCert in low intensity intervention in CBT though the NHS where she continued to develop a range of therapeutic techniques.

As a counsellor Ellen has worked in numerous settings including charities, the NHS and higher education.  She works with a range of issues and believes that each individual brings their own unique understanding of their problems, experiences and ideas of what is useful. As a counsellor she has the role of helping you create greater awareness of yourself and your problem to allow for the possibility of change.   Ellen sees counselling as a dynamic and collaborates process where she tailors her approach to your needs though conversation, shared decisions making and reflecting together in ways to meet your goals. She does this by using a range of therapeutic methods including CBT, solution-focused, and person-centred.
