Transfer to a different University accommodation
Updated on: 15 May 2024
Understand the conditions that apply to accommodation transfer requests.
A limited number of transfers take place each year because bed spaces in University accommodation are allocated at the beginning of the year and vacant rooms are rarely available.
Transfers are not guaranteed.
Requesting a transfer
If you are experiencing difficulties in your hall, you must speak to a member of your Halls Life team before requesting a transfer. If they decide a transfer is necessary, they will complete a transfer request form for you.
If your situation is urgent, the Halls Life team will speak to Student Accommodation Services directly.
All transfer requests must be:
- authorised by your Halls Life team
- authorised by Student Accommodation Services
- limited to one move per student per academic year
- made on or after week 5.
Student Accommodation Services will not consider a transfer request made in the first four weeks after you check in. This is to give you time to adapt to your new living environment.
Approved transfers
If your transfer request is approved, you will receive an email with an accommodation offer.
The following conditions will apply:
- You must reply to your new offer of accommodation by the deadline specified in the email.
- The move will take place on a date you will agree with Student Accommodation Services, and you must also collect your new key on this date.
- You may be charged residence fees for both rooms if you do not return the key for the accommodation you are leaving within 24 hours of collecting your new key.
Residence fees and any hall subscriptions will be adjusted for the date of the move.
