Women
Nationally, women’s professional-level employment rates are higher than men. However, women are still underrepresented in leadership positions and in STEM, finance, and entrepreneurial sectors, among others. The gender pay gap is visible as early as graduation and the Bright Network reports that men are 40% more likely to say they are confident about securing a graduate role than women.
It’s also important to be mindful of intersectionality and understand that underrepresentation and discrimination issues are even greater when race and ethnicity, disability, sexuality, and class are considered in connection to gender.
With this context, this is a collection of career resources for self-identified female students, including finding jobs, internships, and employability events, and information on salary negotiation.

Salary negotiation
Globally, there have been growing efforts to advance women’s roles and pay in organisations to close the existing gender pay gap. While we do not believe that women can simply negotiate away the existing pay gap, negotiating your salary or benefits can be an effective method for combating it. Here are some resources to help you with that negotiation:
- Milkround offers a guide on negotiating salary and benefits in the UK.
- Women in Technology published a salary negotiation guide for women in tech.
- Glassdoor also offers an overview on negotiating salary and benefits.
- The Negotiation Lab offers a combination of in-class workshops, webinars and simulation-based teaching using a video-chat platform to give women the opportunity to try out different bargaining strategies and tactics that they might not ordinarily use, in a safe environment, without fear of repercussion.
You should not negotiate salary or benefits until you receive a written job offer.
