SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

This course provides an introduction to a broad range of concepts and theories in Art History. It typically introduces students to the purpose of art and terms associated with understanding and analysing works of art. In addition, it explores art within key periods throughout history, including Greek and Roman art, the Renaissance, Impressionism, and more Modern and Contemporary art. Students will learn about the periods through examining some of the most important works of art and learn about the artists who created them. By the end of the course the student will be able to: - Define key terms used in analysing art - Analyse works of art - Identify characteristics of key movements in art throughout history - Compare and contrast works of art from the same period - Critically evaluate pieces of art
