SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. Module description

This module is a technical introduction to reading the Greek New Testament: its text, translation, interpretation, historical location and theology. The module is designed, principally, to assist students in building their technical skills to work competently with primary sources. As such, class periods will be structured around student performance in reading, translating, commenting on and interpreting the chosen text.

Intended learning outcomes

  • Intended Learning Outcomes (1) To be able to read aloud select passages from the Greek New Testament atsight; to discuss the meaning and nuance of tricky words and phrases, and on some occasions to be aware of problems in the MS tradition. (2) To improve facility in Koine Greek grammar, syntax and vocabulary. (3) To improve understanding of the ways language works, particularly with respect to the meaning of words and issues of semantics and pragmatics. (4) To grasp the overall train of thought in a particular passage and the relation of a given passage to other similar texts elsewhere in the New Testament.
