Montfort Bursaries: a unique opportunity
Thanks to a generous donation from the Montfort family, the Music Centre is able to offer six outstanding musicians a bursary that provides weekly hour-long one-to-one lessons each year for the duration of their academic degree. Lessons are with Associate Teachers from the Laidlaw Music Centre. Recipients can also apply for funding up to the value of £1500 over the duration of their degree to attend summer schools, masterclasses and other courses or events that will enhance their musical development.
Award holders can study any undergraduate programme and be from anywhere in the world.
As some of the most outstanding student performers in the University, recipients will often occupy principal roles or positions in auditioned ensembles such as St Andrews Chamber Orchestra, Byre Opera and St Salvator's Chapel Choir. They will also benefit from opportunities to work with the Music Centre's team of Honorary Professors and other internationally renowned visiting performers.
Application process
Any student who would like to be considered for a Montfort Bursary, whether they have made an application to study at the University or not, can send a video and CV using the link below for brief written feedback. Videos should be between five and ten minutes long, but can be longer, and can be accompanied or unaccompanied.
Pieces should be chosen that will show the performer at their best and demonstrate musical intentions in a variety of tempos. Evidence of musicianship and confidence is more important than technical proficiency for its own sake.
An award of a Montfort Bursary can only be made to students when they are in receipt of an offer to study at the University and after a live audition online or in-person.
