Auditions

  Auditions for singers will take place on the evening of Wednesday 11 October 2023 in the Gifford Room. Sign up via the audition booking platform.

  Guidance for auditionees:

  The audition requirement is to sing two legit Music Theatre pieces and to present a 1 minute piece of prose text

  Legit means: eg Rodgers and Hammerstein in style (including Sondheim) YES  - from the Musical six or similar style NO. We need to hear you sing something which has vocal line and character. 

   

  The guidance for the text is : "Choose a small segment of prose text from a favourite story (children or otherwise - no poetry) or even a recipe or today's newspaper! Under one minute/one paragraph. Memorised. Narrate/tell a story to us. Show imagination and have fun!"

   

• Vocal and choral auditions

  Candidate for both vocal scholarships and choral scholarships should prepare two pieces which represent their current capabilities, preferably without reliance on sheet music. Candidates may be asked to sing one or both pieces. An accompanist will be provided: please bring sheet music for them to play from.

  Candidates for choral scholarships will be given sightreading and ear tests.

• Instrumental auditions (not piano)

  Instrumentalists are asked to prepare a piece they feel best reflects their abilities.  An accompanist is not required, nor provided, although you may bring your own if you would like to, and you may play repertoire that would otherwise be accompanied if you wish. For those auditioning for chamber orchestra there will be sightreading.

• Piano auditions

  Pianists should prepare a piece or movement of their choice, and there will also be a sightreading test.
