About this course
Join us for a five-day comprehensive advanced music recording and production course that goes in-depth into the art of music recording and production.
You will receive step-by-step guidance on how to record and produce a Pop/Rock song with Dry Island Buffalo Jump in a professional recording studio environment.
You will learn how to track a record and overdub using analogue hardware outboard gears.
Learn the art of audio mixing and mastering from industry professionals and turn your mixes into professional records.
In addition to the valuable knowledge and experience you will gain; you will also have access to the full project and multitrack from the session so you can create your own production and mix for use in your showreel portfolio.
Who is this course for?
This course is for upcoming record producers, aspiring recording engineers, aspiring mix and mastering engineers and everyone in between who would like to produce their own records.

Course requirements
- Previous audio recording experience
- Understanding of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) at an intermediate level
- Familiarity with microphone types, polar patterns and microphone recording techniques
- Understanding of audio signal flow at a beginner level
- General understanding of AUX tracks, sends & returns
- Basic understanding of audio interfaces, sample rate and bit depth
- Familiarity with reverbs, delays and basic understanding of serial & parallel processing

Registration fee
A non-refundable registration fee of £100 is required to secure a place. Places are limited and will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis.
The course fee includes travel to and back from Fife College recording studio on Day 1 and Day 2 from the Laidlaw Music Centre.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the duration of the course.

Course tutors
Dr. Jonathan Kemp
Tutor
Dr. Jonathan A. Kemp, physicist and musician at the University of St Andrews, holds a BSc in Physics with Music and a PhD in brass acoustics. He researches guitar string acoustics, teaches, manages sound at the Music Centre, and plays in Teannaich and Dry Island Buffalo Jump.
Udayan Meshram
Course leader
Udayan Meshram, a music producer and engineer, holds first-class degrees in Music Technology and Electrical Engineering. He teaches music production at St Andrews, works with bands like Wingspread and Dry Island Buffalo Jump, composes for film, and handles audio at the Laidlaw Music Centre.
Samuel Jones
Tutor
Samuel W Jones, a Manchester-based audio producer, composer, and lecturer, has worked with Maruja, Slap Rash, and more. He assisted on James' *Be Opened by the Wonderful*, scores award-winning short films, teaches Pro Tools, and releases electronic music as "Koalas" and "I Was Love."
Graham Deas
Tutor
Graham Deas is a sound engineer with over 30 years experience in recording, mixing, and live sound. He has taught sound production for 15 years. A Pro Tools expert, he’s worked on Mercury Prize-nominated albums and top-10 singles, blending technical skills to train future audio pros.
Alex Miller
Tutor
Alex, a Manchester-based audio engineer and producer with 15+ years' experience, works across many genres. His records earned 180M+ Spotify streams, BBC airplay, and Rock Sound features. An AVID Pro Tools Expert, he trains globally and has credits with ALULA, Bastette, and more.
