Request or renew an IT account

Staff members can request IT accounts for themselves or on behalf of others, such as visiting researchers.


Sponsored account

Suitable for: contractors and visiting researchers who require access to a classroom PC and the University email system.

Duration: up to one year.

To request a sponsored account, complete the new external user account form in IT Self Service.

Do not use this account for:

  • visiting scholars with a staff ID number as they are eligible for a staff computer account
  • external examiners as the Registry team will create and maintain their account

Eduroam account

Suitable for: visitors without eduroam login details.

Duration: up to five days.

To request an eduroam account for your visitors or guests, complete the eduroam visitor access form in IT Self Service.

You must provide a mobile number or email address for each guest so the IT Services team can send them their login details.

If you are welcoming more than ten guests, the University can provide a generic access code for your group or event.

Shared lab account

Suitable for: multiple staff or students who need to log in to a specific instrument or programme.

Duration: up to one year.

To request a shared lab account, complete the shared lab accounts form in IT Self Service.

You must provide the asset tag numbers for the PCs which will use this account. The asset tag is a red sticker with a barcode and a five-digit number.
