Vaccinations students need before arriving in St Andrews

Updated on: 19 August 2024

Find out what vaccines you need and what to do if you are in St Andrews and have not been vaccinated.

All students should contact their doctor to ensure they are up to date with their vaccinations. Visit the NHS Inform website for information about keeping yourself protected from serious diseases.

If you haven’t had the vaccines listed in this guide, you should contact your doctor to get vaccinated before you arrive in St Andrews.

If you are already in St Andrews and did not get your vaccines before you arrived, email studenthealth@st-andrews.ac.uk for advice.

MenACWY vaccine

New university students under 25, children and babies are at higher risk of infection from meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning) and the MenACWY vaccine protects against several meningococcal bacterial groups.

MMR vaccine

You should get the full double dose of the MMR vaccine to protect you from measles, mumps and rubella regardless of your age.

Other diseases

Visit the NHS Inform website for more information about protection from serious diseases, including Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and coronavirus (Covid-19).
