When to contact the Disability Service

Understand what support is available to students with disability and how to contact the Disability Service.
The Disability Service has specialist staff who provide advice to students with:
- physical disabilities
- sensory impairment
- unseen medical conditions
- long-standing health or medical conditions
- mental health difficulties and diagnoses
- Autistic spectrum conditions
- Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)
It may be that your disability or health condition does not impact on your studies but may affect your stay in University accommodation. If you are unsure if you qualify for alternative arrangements or want to discuss your specific needs, please contact the Disability Service.
The Disability Service offers a wide range of support and can assist in the following areas:
- Assessing appropriate support for you to access your course of study.
- Informing Academic Schools and Exam Office of teaching and exam arrangements.
- Arranging SpLD assessments and referrals to educational psychologists.
- Advice on the Disabled Students’ Allowance (UK students only).
- Liaising with Student Accommodation Services.
- Assisting you to contact external agencies to arrange support, for example, personal care and independent living support.
There are also School and Unit Disability Advisers who can help with recommended resources and software.
