Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
Updated on: 3 February 2026
Understand what is a CAS number and how to get one.
You need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to apply for a Student visa.
A CAS is a unique number created by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and requested by the University. It includes information about your chosen course of study, fees due, fees paid, how you were assessed as eligible to enter the University, and the University’s details.
Read the University's CAS issuing policy for more information.
Before you can receive a CAS
You must complete an administrative process to be eligible for a CAS. You must have:
- an unconditional offer
- paid your deposit
- submitted all documents required by the applications team, including criminal records form, qualifications and other documents as appropriate.
From mid-March, after meeting these requirements, the University will contact you to start the CAS process.
Applying for your CAS number
The University will email you a link to My visa matters within our secure student portal, where you can apply for and track the progress of your CAS number anytime.
- Within My visa matters, upload the passport details you intend to apply with, and a photocopy of your passport image page.
- The University will use your passport details to create and email you your preliminary CAS information. This may take up to five working days.
- Check and confirm that the details are correct, or inform the University of any changes.
- Once you have confirmed the details are correct, the University will request your CAS number from UKVI.
- The University's Registry team will email you your official CAS number within five working days of your confirmation.
Applying for your Student visa
You must not apply for your Student visa until you have received your CAS number.
How long will it take to receive my CAS?
The University will send you your official CAS number once you’ve met all the requirements and within five working days after you have uploaded and confirmed your preliminary CAS information.
CAS numbers will not be issued before March.
Guidance on combined CAS applications
The University will only issue a combined CAS covering both your pre-sessional English course and your main programme of study when all the following conditions are met:
- You have fully met the English language requirements for your main programme of study. This includes meeting the minimum scores for all components (reading, writing, speaking, listening), as specified for your programme.
- You have received and accepted an offer for both the pre-sessional course and the main programme.
- There are no outstanding compliance checks that prevent the CAS from being issued.
If you have not yet met the English language requirements for your main programme, the University will issue a single CAS for your pre-sessional course only. A separate CAS for your main programme will be issued later, once you have met the necessary English language requirements.
