Audio standards

This information is for University staff who intend to create audio files such as podcasts, interviews or music clips.

All audio files embedded into an external-facing University-owned web page must be signed off by Corporate Communications before being published.

File format

Audio files should be in WAV or MP3 320kbps formats. Audio files longer than 10 minutes must only be in MP3 format or the file size will be too large. 

Resolution

Audio settings should be set to stereo with a sample rate of 44.1kHz and a bit depth of 16-bit. 

Transcripts

All audio files including dialogue which are embedded on a web page must be accompanied by a written transcription for accessibility purposes. Find out more about transcripts. 

Uploading to Soundcloud

The University has a Soundcloud account to host audio files. To upload your file to this channel, please email itservicedesk@st-andrews.ac.uk.
