Summer Internship Scheme

The Summer Internship Scheme lets you complete a paid, six-week internship in a University of St Andrews professional service unit.  

During the internship, you will have the chance to make a real contribution to University projects. You will increase your knowledge of the world of work, gain skills and grow your network. 

The Summer Internship Scheme provides paid internships. Interns will receive the National Living Wage. Interns will be expected to work 35 hours a week.

Eligibility

The Summer Internship Scheme is open to:   

  • second-year undergraduates enrolled on a four-year degree  
  • third-year undergraduates enrolled on a five-year degree.   

You can apply for several internships within the scheme, but accept only one.

Applying

Apply on CareerConnect. Submit your CV and cover letter stating how you meet the requirements of the internship and what you'd like to gain from the experience.      

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview with the host. 

What to expect

You will be given an induction at the beginning of your internship. This will include an introduction to the overall function of the unit in which you will be working.   

You will then be given a real-life project to work on, and be expected to perform useful tasks within the unit.  

During the internship, you will be asked to reflect on your achievements and progress, and about any other areas you want to experience further. You will also be provided with comprehensive feedback on your performance.
