While emotions have a significant effect on our daily lives, they are deeply complex and notoriously difficult to understand.  Many of the great philosophers (e.g., Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hume) put forward theories of emotions. Nonetheless, philosophy of emotion has become more active within the past decade or so. It turns out that there are a decent number of philosophers within Scotland who do research on emotions.
