Title: Modal Rabbits and Non-Modal Hats

Abstract: In this short reply to Correia & Skiles (2021), which we have read last Semester, I present a dilemma for the identity-based essentialist who wants a reductive account of metaphysical modality in terms of essence. In particular, I argue that the story given in Correia & Skiles (2021)about how statements of generalized identity account for all metaphysical necessities is either incapable to accommodate some genuine metaphysical necessities, and is therefore incomplete; or it is incapable to reduce metaphysical modality to essence, and is therefore incorrect.
