Correspondence as Convenient Friction:

In this talk, I use Huw Price’s paper “Truth as Convenient Friction” (2003) as a blueprint for arguing that the correspondence theory of truth satisfies the Pragmatic Maxim. By aiming for correspondence, friction is added to our disagreements — a kind of urgency to resolve disagreements — which transforms our inquiry from a mere expression of opinions into a proper assertoric dialogue. The article argues that other notions of truth, like deflationary or epistemic notions, do not have the resources required to explain this friction.
