Tuesday (31st March, 12-2pm) Carrie Fidgor (Iowa) will give a talk on “Towards a Non-Anthropocentric Psychology”.
Abstract: Psychology began as the part of philosophy concerning the soul, and historically remained anthropocentric in a number of mutually supporting ways. Evolutionary theory threatened to upend this anthropocentrism with the possibility of psychological continuity across species, But only very recently has scientific psychology finally begun to reformulate its conceptual foundations so that it is fully consistent with evolution. I will discuss recent empirical work motivating this new foundation and sketch what the emerging non-anthropocentric psychology will look like.
The seminar will happen in Zoom. If you are not in our Zoom group, please let me (si24@st-andrews.ac.uk) know and I can add you.
