Abstract: In a recent paper, Hawley has explored the doxastic and epistemic parallels between conspiracy theorising and impostor syndrome. Despite their differences, there are interesting similarities between the two phenomena, ‘insofar as they involve distinctive patterns of trust and distrust, distinctive interactions between the content of a belief and the evidence which tells for or against that belief, and, perhaps, distinctive epistemic practices.’ Taking Hawley’s work as a starting point, in this talk I explore some of the doxastic and epistemic parallels between conspiracy theorising and scepticism.
