Title: Justification from Statistical Evidence: A Defense
Abstract:
Can statistical evidence justify beliefs? According to many orthodox views the answer is yes. In recent years however, a number of arguments have set out to challenge this claim. According to these objections, statistical evidence – regardless of its strength – is never sufficient for justification. In this paper I consider but ultimately reject the leading arguments against the claim that statistical evidence can justify beliefs.
If people could read Clayton Littlejohn’s (2017) “Truth, knowledge, and the standard of proof in criminal law”, that would be great.
