This week I think it would be interesting to look at Fantl’s Limitations of the Open mind. Fantl argues for closemindedness in the face of apparent counterarguments. When presented with counterarguments to our beliefs, not only do we not need to look for flaws in the counterarguments, but even if we look and fail to find flaws in the argument, we can hold on to our beliefs.

I will be discussing Chapters 2 and 3. Chapter 2 presents Fantl’s main argument and chapter 3 fills out the machinery. Feel free to skim chapter 2 once you get the gist of it.
