Abstract:
First, I will present Langland-Hassan’s argument for the single attitude theory. There I will try to make his notion of counterfactual beliefs more precise with reference to Leitgeb. Second, I provide some reasons for why an epistemology of counterfactuals should involve the imagination, and argue that L-H’s account relies on such an epistemology. Therefore his argument is not generalisable to a dismissal of imagination as a cognitive attitude. The whole thing will be pretty much work in progress.
