Licensing procedures for Centres and Institutes
The majority of research at St Andrews takes place within academic schools. However, large research projects can form as Centres or Institutes. The University currently has over 45 licensed , around one third of which are interdisciplinary.
Definitions
- Centre
- A grouping that is based purely on research collaboration
- Institute
- A grouping that is based on research collaboration and also provides undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching
Current licensing procedure
Proposals for new centres or institutes should be completed on the standard form downloaded from this page, and emailed to the Vice Principal for Research & Innovation via Research & Innovation Services (ris@st-andrews.ac.uk). Each proposal should be supported by an email or letter from both the appropriate Head(s) of School and Director(s) of Research. (Emails of support should reach us within 14 days of an application.)
Centres and Institutes are reviewed annually by Research & Innovation Services on behalf of the Vice Principal for Research & Innovation.
