Student engagement

Partnership with students is the key to the successful enhancement of the quality of the student experience at St Andrews.

Elected School Presidents, class representatives and Sabbatical Officers represent students at every level of University governance.

National student surveys, module feedback questionnaires and staff-student consultative committees also allow for regular feedback and dialogue to with all students.

Accessibility

All Schools at the University of St Andrews commit to making their modules accessible to all.

Students with additional needs are assisted through personalised support plans and resources and training are in place institutionally to ensure inclusion and accessibility for learning and teaching throughout the University.

Teaching development

The University of St Andrews is committed to supporting excellent teaching and assessment. There is a range of workshops, services and resources for the support and development of staff who teach.

All academic staff are invited to engage with the University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP). There is also a programme of shorter standalone teaching workshops as part of the Academic Staff Development Programme, and support is available for anyone who wishes to apply for HEA Fellowship.

Furthermore, there is an extensive range of resources in the area of Technology Enhanced Learning and an active online Community for Evidence-led Practice in Education where discussion and resources are shared.

The University also runs mentoring for all new academic staff as well as a peer reflection on teaching process which encourages and supports teaching and personal development through the collegial exchange of ideas.
