Equality, diversity and inclusion

We are proud to foster a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone can thrive.

We believe that creating a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion is a shared responsibility.

Every student and staff member plays a vital role in making this vision a reality.

Diverse action plan

Our Diverse Action Plan outlines the steps we will take over the next five years to achieve this goal. This plan is built around key enablers that drive meaningful and lasting change:

  • facilitate a community approach to culture change
  • provide visible signals of inclusion
  • demonstrate institutional commitment and leadership
  • develop enhanced and transparent data and analytic capability and use
  • refresh our People Strategy

Staff networks

As part of our commitment to inclusivity, our staff networks create supportive spaces where colleagues can connect, share experiences and socialise. These networks are open to all staff and bring together those with shared circumstances or characteristics.

Our staff networks include:

  • Staff BAME network
  • Staff with disabilities or neurodiversity network
  • LGBTQI+ employee network
  • Parents and carers staff network

These groups offer a welcoming community where everyone can feel supported and valued.

Alongside our Diverse Action Plan, we actively develop and implement targeted plans to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all staff. We collaborate with sector-wide organisations, such as AdvanceHE, to deliver specialised development programmes that promote equality and diversity.

We are also taking steps to enhance inclusivity for LGBTQI+ individuals and those with disabilities. In addition to our annual assessments of institutional practices, we are currently developing targeted disability and LGBTQI+ plans to further support our goal of creating the most inclusive and supportive environment for all staff.
