Endowed chairs

Make waves of excellence

Establish new, endowed chairs of learning across the University.

World-leading people drive world-leading universities. Your support helps St Andrews attract the brightest minds and shape the future of research and teaching.

Although our endowment is relatively small, we have used it strategically to invest in research, teaching technologies and the student experience at St Andrews. Our consistently high rankings are testament to the success of this strategy.

To sustain this success, we must grow our endowment to secure long-term funding for chairs and academic posts. These appointments will attract world-class scholars, strengthen academic leadership and enhance our research reputation ahead of REF2029.

Establishing new Chairs

With support from the Making Waves Campaign, we will expand academic leadership by creating new posts in the Business School and endowing Chairs in key areas including Earth and Environmental Sciences and Chinese Studies.

How you can support us

An endowed chair requires £3 million in the Arts, Divinity and Science faculties and £5m in Medicine. Your support will help us drive excellence through world-class academic appointments.
