Established in 1990, Pompeu Fabra is one of the newest public universities in Spain. It is an urban university located in the heart of Barcelona, stretching from the Rambla to the Olympic Village. Pompeu Fabra hosts 10,000 students and each year welcomes 800 students from North America and 700 from Europe.

Students on degree programmes in the following subject areas may apply to study abroad during their Junior Honours year at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Pompeu Fabra University):
Please note that this exchange is only available for the full academic year due to the trimester system at Pompeu Fabra.
Note: Joint Honours students may only apply for a full year abroad if BOTH subjects are listed above. Joint Honours students applying for one semester must seek permission from both Schools.

Living there

Getting there and getting around

The airport is located 12 km outside the city. Links to the airport are as follows:

By train:

  • Operating hours from Plaça Catalunya: approximately 6am-10pm.
  • Frequency: Every 30 minutes
  • Length of trip: 25 minutes

    By taxi
  • There are taxi ranks at all three of the airport's terminals.
  • It takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the city centre.

    A1-Aerobús:
  • Operating hours: from the airport, from 6am-12am
  • Frequency: every 15 minutes
  • Length of journey: 30 minutes

    Barcelona has two interconnected underground train systems: the Metro, comprising five lines, and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), which has two metropolitan lines and another four which go beyond the city limits. While slower, the buses have the advantage of allowing you to enjoy the city while you travel.

    Pompeu Fabra offers a range of support services at the Welcome Office for exchange students. Likewise, the University offers general support services for all students. There is also support for students with disabilities

    Finance and insurance

    Living costs

    Monthly expenses can range from 800€ to 950€ for students sharing a private flat to 1250€ for student accommodation.
