| U.S. wartime posters This gallery represents a small selection of posters produced during the two world wars, which were crucial in
convincing those who were prehaps not directly involved with the war effort that there were ways of re-using all kinds of
materials that might otherwise be regarded as simple waste, and that wasting resources that were seemingly more insubstantial - such as time - could also have
unwelcome consequences. These posters illustrate the extent to which the wartime economy of the
U.S. was reconfigured around ideas of restraint, efficiency and vigilance, with over-indulgence and carelessness represented as life-threatening and wasteful behaviour
for the consequences it would have for others.
