The SNPsoc Committee for this year has expanded from the year before. Although some posts are obviously fixed for one person, when a big event comes along, no-one should be left alone and everyone chips in. Here is the new committee for 2006/7.

neal stewart

President to be confirmed.

Neal Stewart has spent the last year in France and becomes favourite to take over the hot seat in September - short of a coup, his duty shall be to steer the society through the election year.

A native of Glasgow, Neal is studying French (obviously) and International Relations. Before his year abroad he was Vice President of the society and the Treasurer of the Federation of Student Nationalists.

Vice President.

Jen McClure - a Scottish historian into her third year takes over the influential position of Vice President. It shall not be repeated what she said on nomination! Jen is already suggesting pre-election campaigns and will be in charge of the end of year dinner for 2006.

emma picture

Treasurer.

Working more on publicity than membership for 2005/6; Emma Fernie is a Maths and Physics student heading into third year who, if not trying to remember all those equations, is willing to lend a hand at any event.

Iain Neill

Secretary.

Iain Neill is a fourth year Geologist who comes from Dingwall but is a proud holder of an Irish passport. He was the Federation of Student Nationalists Vice Convener for 2005/6.

Iain may once have been described as an "illiterate scientist" but is working to shake off that mantle and become this year's secretary after three years at the helm.

niall caldwell

Membership secretary.

Niall Caldwell is the man to look to for random "condemnations" and the one who is scribbling away the tongue in cheek minutes that we love to read.

A walking epitome of the Tartan Army, Niall is into his final year (one of the founding members of this generation of SNPsoc) and studying Scottish History.

Ryan Hundley

Organisation Convener to be confirmed.

Mr Ryan Hundley is favourite to take over this position from Jen following promotion. Ryan made a huge impact in 2004/5 and Stewart Hosie knows more than most - a tireless campaigner in Dundee.

Ryan's enthusiasm knows no bounds so organisation sounds like the best option! He is returning to further his St. Andrews career after returning for a year to his native America.

chris picture

Publicity Czar.

Chris Bennett is a proud Yorkshireman. Needless to say this has impacted strongly on his position within the society and Chris has put his hand to dinners, booze and club clothing.

He's also one of those rare types who is studying pure History and will be into his third year. Chris takes over the new publicity role, making way for Ryan Hundley to return as an Organiser.

statto picture

Alumni Relations Officer

Stewart Smith, or Statto as he is sometimes better known is on the dreaded triple Modern Languages course and rates many interests from learning Chinese to working in Alex Salmond's office over the summer of 2005.

Stewart made a more recent choice to join the SNP and has never looked back. His experience of living abroad brings a new perspective on our own issues.

Talking of living abroad, he's off to do his year abroad and thus takes a step down to this increasingly important role.

salmond picture

Honorary President.

Who else? It could only be the Leader and former Leader of the Scottish National Party, St. Andrews graduate and former political strategist of the year, Mr. Alex Salmond.

Alex earns a quaich for his troubles and gets his name on the bottom of our official letters. Every now and then, when in town, he makes time to come and visit the students, on one occasion shunning a dinner with the debating society to say hello to us!
