Research in Quantum Optics and Quantum Information

Our research is loosely organised into two (overlapping) subject areas, and two research groups: Quantum Optics and Quantum Information:

Quantum Optics Group

The Quantum Optics group in St. Andrews is led by Ulf Leonhardt. Experimental research is led by Friedrich Koenig.

Quantum Information Group

The Quantum Optics group in St. Andrews is led by Natalia Korolkova. Our group is involved in exploratory research on mesoscopic CV quantum information systems in close collaboration with experimental groups, targeted at designing the first small-scale quantum processor that is expected to be found in the nodes of future quantum communication networks. Our main challenges include the development of CV entanglement distillation, CV quantum computing models, and CV quantum error correction procedures. Harnessing non-Gaussian states is also an absolute prerequisite, and we are looking at different ways to design them and to adequately describe their properties.
