Unlike the early stages of the First World War, general recruiting
posters were not required in the Second World War because male
conscription was introduced in Britain several months prior to the
outbreak of the conflict. Recruiting posters were, nevertheless, prominent
but they were mainly concerned with specialist services and, in
particular, aimed at women. Other recruiting campaigns were linked with
boosting industrial and agricultural output.
