The Soviet Union, 1917-1945

Special Features

The following special features play a prominent role in the teaching of the course.

Information Technology

This course makes extensive use of the St Andrews Campus Network for information and communications purposes.

Embedded within this website is a WebCT element, including a dedicated discussion-board used for recording the outcome of seminar discussions and for the informal consideration of any issues arising from the course. (The WebCT element is password-protected.)

Use is also made of relevant resources on the World Wide Web. However, these should be regarded as complementary to, and not substitutes for, conventional printed primary and secondary source material. History is a reading-intensive subject, and the bulk of the available source material remains in conventional printed form.

Oral Assessment

The overall assessment of students enroled in this course involves an element of oral assessment, awarded for the presentation of a short position paper and for oral participation in class discussion throughout the course.
