History
I started working as a Lecturer at the Gatty Marine Laboratory in February 2001. Prior to that I worked for seven years at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), latterly at grade UG7. At BAS my research centred on Antarctic krill, specifically year to year variations in the abundance of krill at South Georgia. I was part of a team using acoustic survey techniques to estimate krill abundance. In addition to my research role, I was leader of a project called "Variability of Southern Ocean Ecosystems". This project sought to describe and explain mechanisms driving pelagic ecosystem variation. The project's geographic focus was South Georgia, but we considered biological and oceanographic processes acting across the Scotia Sea and south-western Atlantic as a whole. One of the Pelegic Ecology Research Group's projects is building on my work on ecosystem variability at BAS.
