Frecuency of updating
During its first period (January 2003 - January 2007), AKWN was updated
more or less every three-four days as an average but in a very irregular
way: sometimes it was updated two consecutive days but with just a short
news and somedays it was updated after a whole week but with three or
four news.
In this second period (November 2007 - ?), my plan is to offer the
news with a weekly frequence of actualization, as some of my readers
aknowledge that usually they hardly checked the news more than once
every week or even every two weeks. This will also allow me to continue
with this project without any more sudden breaks, as the reason for
this break of nine months has been the need of time for other projects
(basically, to give a good push to the Greek Language Course I am writing
and its equivalent for Latin).
Of course, given the fact that outside the teaching terms I will frequently
continue with my work for the University from abroad, computer requirements
(server connexion, etc.) will prevent me from updating the site, but
these periods of absence will be conveniently advertised in the front
page.
Where can you find everything?
The latest news are in their corresponding page, with the most recent
news always at the top; as more latest news are included, I take the
older ones and put them into the Former News page, a kind
of stock for people who want to revise them; of course, as more news
are included there, I remove the oldest ones from the computer: I use
the images system for texts, so I take care not to have an excess of
material inside the page, as this makes it always difficult to work
with it (images occupy a lot of k-space).
Greek typography
About the question of which Greek font to use, the problem goes on
being the same: either both receiver and sender have the same font,
or the receiver (the reader) will not be able to visualize the Greek
text correctly. Therefore, as in the first period, I will go on using
the system of transforming my Greek text into an image and uploading
it as such (in any case, you will observe some diferences with respect
to the first period, just for technical reasons).
The Unicode system seems to be the final solution, but not all computers
have a Unicode font that includes compound characters for Ancient Greek,
maybe it will be so in a near future, but some experiments have proved
that still a small portion of readers wouldn't be able to read a Unicode
font. Therefore, we will wait more until this device of Unicode is completely
extended before moving into it.
