As probably you will want to know who the redactor of this web page is, here you have some information about me:
COMPLETE NAME:
Joan Coderch-i-Sancho
[in Spain we use two surnames; moreover, in Catalonia we use to include
this little i (and) between both; what some
Catalan people do nowadays is adding those little hyphens to transform
it into a single surname that includes both. By the way, Joan
means John in Catalan, it is a masculine name, it is not
the feminine name Joan in English.]
PLACE OF RESIDENCe:
When not in the UK: Barcelona and Lloret de Mar (Costa Brava).
When in the UK: St. Andrews, Scotland.
where do i work?
After 16 glorious years of fighting against teenagers in a high school
(Rambo wouldn't have resisted there more than half an hour, I assure
you), 16 years that have been continuously crowned by overwhelming victories
(of mine, of course) in achieving that those empty-headed youngsters
learned the basics of Greek and Latin (whose practical use is evident
to all of the mankind except to them), I was offered (at my 41 years
of age) the oportunity of taking another direction in my life in a somewhat
different environment.
I worked for four years at the University of Oxford. My position was
Lector of Latin and Greek at the Faculty of Classics (well, it couldn't
be the Faculty of Nuclear Physics!).
In the summer of 2007, at my 45 years of age, I moved to the University
of St. Andrews to take up the position of Senior Language Tutor in Greek
and Latin.

etc.).
[since 1994, 5-year degrees have been reduced to 4-year in Spanish universities.]
WHAT DO I DO IN MY FREE TIME?
Apart from my usual duties at the University and going on in the study
of our wide field of the Greek and Latin World in its several aspects
(history, literature, etc.), I am now involved in a certain publication
related to Greek language, more details will follow as soon as it is
out in the market.
I am also writing a World History book which will cover from the very
beginning (the Big Bang; in spite of trying really hard, I have not
managed to start from before; if you would like to know about even before,
please get in touch with Stephen Hawking, University of Cambridge) to
the events we are living nowadays; in this book I try to deal with the
most important events, but trying at the same time to keep a line of
continuity. I am doing it in a somehow old-fashioned way, the kind of
History you were taught at school a lot of years ago, instead of following
the modern historical tendencies, and I include some personal comments;
it will be a kind of Commented World History. Of what I
have written up to now, the part I like most are the first pages dedicated
to the first minute of the Universe.
Of course, after my incorporation at the University of Oxford first
and at the University of St. Andrews later my free time has been drastically
reduced to zero, so you will have to wait if you want to read my book.
The study of foreign languages has also been one of my favourite activities,
especially German and Russian.
Also marathon training (running marathons is my favourite activity)
and also rugby (yes, at my age, please don't laugh) take me a lot of
free time every day; nevertheless, I can devote more time to Greek and
Latin when I am injured (which, unfortunately, happens too often). Then,
as I feel bored when I cannot run, I spend my time doing strange things
as for instance web pages of world news in Ancient Greek...
WANT TO SEE ME?
Here you can see me in my most favourite activity: click
here. This picture was taken in Oxford, when running in the Town
and Gown Race (the logotype of the Oxford University Cross Country Club
can hardly be seen in the vest, sorry for the small size of the picture).
