Ode to Beijing
On
the occasion of the Olympic Games in Beijing and on the initiative of
shipowner Evangelos Angelakos, the Mayor of the Oinousses Islands, –which
lie between Chios and Turkey-, the well known classisist, historian
and author Sarantos Kargakos composed an “Ode to Beijing”
in ancient Greek.

I
have translated one of the tales of the famous Italian writer. Again,
don camillo and peppone confront each other and amuse us with their
different points of view. with this translation i pay my personal tribute
to this author, one of my favourites. My gratitude to richard ashdowne
for having passed it into pdf format.
Gaisford Prize for
Greek Verse Composition 2003, University of Oxford
Wolfgang
de melo, d.phil. student, has won this year's prize with an excellent
translation from shakespeare into iambic trimetres. it corresponds to
the play "measure for measure", act 3, scene 1, from "Doest
you think, claudio" to "to what we fear of death", in
the dialogue between claudio and isabella (the composition includes
a series of footnotes about some forms used, but i haven't been able
to reproduce them here for image-system reasons). any comments can be
sent to me and i will pass them to him immediately.

Wonderful
recreation of Plato's Dialogues. Disfortunately, I don't know who the
author is, but the original English passage seems to be from D. woodruff
"Plato's american republic". If you recognize the author,
please tell me.
Timarchos Kyrenaeus
Illoustrios
a
short epigram composed by massimo scorsone (università di torino,
italia). As the author says, composed on reading a passage in Petronius'
Satyricon, and ascribed to a fictitious Timarchos Illoustrios.

Translation
of hamlet's famous soliloquy on self-murder. i don't know who translated
it, but i had it among other compositions i brought from sheffield.
they were part of a book about greek composition. unfortunately, translators
are not mentioned in the few papers i have from that book. I will offer
you more of these wonderful compositions further ahead. (If anybody
by chance recognizes the author, please inform me).

This
Composition was written a lot of years ago by prof. josep alsina, my
ph.d. tutor, and prof. manuel fernández-galiano, imitating Thucydides'
dialect and style, with speeches included. i split it in several parts,
as it is too long to include it in just one image. i offer their composition
here in akwn to pay homage to their memory.
