Martin Panzer

4th Year Economics & Management
Director of Sponsorship

I have now been actively involved in the forum for two years, but have seen it grow year on year since its inception. My current post is that of Director of Sponsorship and previously I was Director of Speakers & Content of the 2010 forum on "Developing Africa, A Lost Cause or A Rising Star?" I think SAEF is an inspiring and unique student-run project, in that it is large enough to attract some of the world's most eminent experts and small enough to allow students to interact with these speakers. This year's topic "Emerging Markets: Can You Hear the Beat of Our Global Economy?" reflects one of the most important global developments of our time and the questions addressed by the panels outline some of the most crucial economic and political consequences that these developments entail. I very much look forward to a successful SAEF 2011!

Fast developing, unique in its format and highly intriguing- This is how I have experienced SAEF. It triggered my interest in my first year and has been a continuously rewarding involvement. Not only as a conference has SAEF committed itself to an intimate framework but also its committee is rather small and working closely together. As being responsible for speakers and content I have the chance to engage with a variety of tasks: from researching a topic over negotiating ideas and thoughts to more managerial tasks and the personal contact with out-standing experts. I warmly welcome you to approach me if you are interested in becoming involved!

Director of Marketing and Communications

Entering my third year of involvement with SAEF, I have been fortunate to work with such a dedicated group. Since my first year, we have developed the conference into the event that it is today, and I enjoy the chance to make it even better in the coming years. SAEF represents a wonderful platform for students and professionals to discuss the pressing issues of the world. As we rapidly approach SAEF 2011, I look forward to continuing this tradition and providing the best experience possible for our diverse range of guests.

3rd Year Financial Economics
Director of Finance and Operations

This is my second year of active involvement in the forum, though not having been active involved last year, I have seen the forum thrive throughout my three years here. This year I'm happy to be the Director of Finance and Operations, a role I hope to do justice. The St Andrews Economic Forum is an extraordinary example of how the involvement of students can transform great ideas into reality. SAEF's perhaps most astounding feature is the ability of allowing a great number of students to interact with experts in their particular fields, enabling students to get out more than if they would attend just a normal lecture. This year's topic "Emerging Markets - Can You Hear the Beat of Our Global Economy?" is particularly a pressing issue on the economic and political agenda. I hope to see you at SAEF 2011.

3rd Year International Relations
Team Speakers and Content

The St Andrews Economic Forum has allowed me the opportunities to further my understanding on micro and macro-economic issues. I have been able to meet some truly inspiring speakers throughout the years. The speakers have helped me to view specific economic issues through different perspectives. I am thrilled for this year's conference and am thankful to all the speakers who will be attending.

Knowledge-hungry is probably one of the attributes that describes me best. Independent of whether they fall into my field of studies. I love to explore new issues, tease out arguments and debate. For that matter I greatly enjoy working for the Speakers and Content Team of SAEF. It allows me to discover intriguing debates and correspond with fascinating personalities. Even more so it is a great pleasure to me to assure that a wider audience gets the chance at SAEF to listen to their expert opinions, learn, question and challenge.

Creating a place for professionals and experts to come together and debate current events is an amazing experience. Not only is SAEF academically an amazing conference, but also an extremely exciting and relevant one. I think the topics we choose are important and interesting for students, academics and business people alike. As a member of the SAEF committee I am able to research topics and presenters and help create an amazing intellectual event.

I joined the SAEF team for the academic side of it - getting engaged in one specific topic in the economic sphere, researching specialists and getting in contact with them is a great way to extend academic exchange between students and professors beyond St Andrews University requirements. I particularly like the independence of the forum with regards to speakers and content and the possibility to invite interesting scholars. As it turned out, I had come across many scholars that were important to my panel topic during my actual studies. SAEF offers the opportunity for me to contact experts in the field of IR and invite them to St Andrews - What could be better for combining personal interest, extra-curricular activities and my studies?
