PY1003: Introduction to Logic

Welcome to the web-page for PY1003: Introduction to Logic.
This course is running for the Candlemas semester, 2006.

This year's Course Booklet is available below. This year's Lecture Handouts and Example Class Question Sheets will be posted as they become available.
Last year's Handouts are available at the bottom of this page, but please be aware that some details will have changed.
Remember that reading Lecture Handouts is not an adequate substitute for attending lectures.

Lecturers on this course in 2006 are:
Carrie Jenkins
Philip Ebert
Marcus Rossberg

The course textbook is Logic With Trees by Colin Howson.
Students may also find the following books helpful in order to get a flavour of the subject, although they should note that these texts may employ slightly different rules from the systems we'll be using:
Modern Logic by Graeme Forbes
Formal Logic: Its Scope and Limits by Richard Jeffrey
Logic by Wilfred Hodges.

If you have any questions about this page, or about the module, please contact Carrie Jenkins (csj6).

IMPORTANT
The Class Tests scheduled for Friday 17th March and Friday 5th May are cancelled due to the current AUT industrial action, which includes an assessment boycott.
Assessment for PY1003 will be based solely on the final examination this year.
